Velma Nuzum (Sconish)
Velma June Nuzum, 86, of Shinnston passed away peacefully in her home on October 20, 2017.
She was born on August 8, 1931 in Fairmont to the late Mike and Adrian Courtney Sconish.
June is survived by her husband, Carl Nuzum, Jr. of Shinnston; sons, Roger Nuzum and his wife Kandi of Fairmont; Randal Nuzum and his wife Kim of Shinnston; Kevin Nuzum and his wife Bethany of Shinnston; Kent Nuzum and his wife Natalie of Alpharetta, GA; grandchildren, Kimberly Hutson and her husband Rusty of Birmingham, AL; Amber June Nuzum of Bridgeport; Ryan Nuzum and his wife Mandy of Fairmont; Kaitlin Osbourn and her husband Wes of Charlotte, NC; Cameron Nuzum of Shinnston; Krislin Nuzum of Shinnston; Grant Nuzum of Shinnston; Addison Nuzum of Alpharetta, GA; Lauren Nuzum of Alpharetta, GA; Ella Nuzum of Alpharetta, GA; Jake Nuzum of Alpharetta, GA; and 8 great-grandchildren, Hannah Hutson; Conner Hutson; Parker Hutson; Tanner Hutson, all of Birmingham, AL; Lainey Nuzum; Rhett Nuzum; Beau Nuzum; and Brock Nuzum, all of Fairmont.
In addition to her parents, June was preceded in death by her twins, Jennifer and Jeffery Nuzum.
June was a member of the First Baptist Church of Shinnston. She formerly held the office of church clerk. June sang in the church choir and served on the bereavement and social committee. She was a member of the Eastern Star Chapter #103. June was a member of the Shinnston American Legion Auxiliary and former member of the Shinnston Woman’s Club.
Friends and family will be received at Harmer Funeral Home, Shinnston on Monday from 2-8 PM and Tuesday at the First Baptist Church of Shinnston from 11 AM-1:30 PM. A funeral service will be held at 1:30 PM on Tuesday, October 24, 2017 at the First Baptist Church of Shinnston with Pastor Kevin G. Nuzum officiating. Interment will follow at Shinnston Memorial Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, Memorial contributions can be sent to the Lord’s Pantry at PO Box 64 Shinnston, WV 26431.
