Obituary for Ronald "Hawk" Romeo

Ronald "Hawk" Romeo
Ronald “Hawk” Romeo, 68, of Shinnston, passed away on Thursday, December 21 at his residence. He was born September 25, 1949 in Shinnston, a son of the late Rocco Romeo Sr. and Julia Ann Nicolette Romeo.
Hawk is survived by his son Joshua and wife Chasity of Shinnston; 2 grandchildren Kylieanna and Peyton, whom he loved more than anything and devoted his life to; a special niece, Dana Echard. He is also survived by his brothers and sister; Rocco Romeo Jr. and wife Adeline of Shinnston; James Romeo and wife Jackie of Bridgeport; Patty Merico and husband Frank of Shinnston; many beloved nieces and nephews who will greatly miss his love and torture.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brothers and sisters, Frank Romeo; Cora “Coke” Echard; John Augustine Romeo; Mary Clifton, Sam Romeo and Guy Romeo.
Hawk graduated from Shinnston High School in 1967 and spent the next span of his life as a Fairmont State student. He was a member of the Tau Beta Iota Fraternity where lives were changed forever. After his stint as a “career college student” Ron became a Special Education teacher in Harrison County with the majority of his career spent at Bridgeport High School. He retired in 2015 and continued to substitute up until his time of death. The number of students’, colleagues’, and administrators’ lives that were positively impacted by him are countless.
Hawk’s passion was officiating. He refereed baseball, basketball, and football. His love of the “Friday Night Lights” led him to a 43-year football officiating career, and culminated with the title of National Referee of the Year. The members of his football crew; Kirk Cistaro, Sam DeMarco, Chad Riley, and Vic Moccia were like family to him. The love they had for each other was immeasurable, and the stories they share are hysterical.

Friends will be received at the Harmer Funeral Home, 300 Pike St., Shinnston on Tuesday, December 26 from 2-8 PM. The Holy Rosary will be recited on Tuesday at 7:30 PM. A funeral service will be held at St. Ann Catholic Church on Wednesday, December 27 at 10:30 AM with the Rev. Patsy Walsh officiating. Online memories and condolences may be shared at www.harmerfuneralhome.com.
