Martha L.  Ballard (Bartlett)
Martha L. Bartlett Ballard, 96, of Shinnston passed away on August 1, 2016 at United Hospital Center.
She was born on July 7, 1920 in Simpson to the late Guy and Maude Phillips Bartlett.
Martha is survived by her son, Chris L. Ballard and wife Anita K. of Shinnston; grandson, Matthew G. Ballard and wife Staci L. Ballard of Charleston; three great granddaughters, Sylvia Lily, Stella Grace, and Gianna Leigh; Special nephew, Donice Bartlett and wife Diane; brother-in-law, James Ballard and wife Marge; several nieces and nephews; and several great nieces and great nephews.
In addition to her parents, Martha was preceded by her loving husband, Charles H. Ballard; and brother, Ralph Bartlett.
Martha worked for the Taylor County Board of Education as a Kindergarten Aide at Simpson Elementary School. She also worked in Retail. She graduated from Simpson High School and was active in the Simpson Alumni Association.
Her home was her pride and joy. She was always a meticulous housekeeper and enjoyed decorating her home for the holidays. In her later years while a resident at Clarksburg Nursing and Rehab., she took part in all the activities they offered and served as president and vice president of the residents council, was a member of the Red Hat Society, was the 2013 Valentine Queen, and represented them as their Senior Expo Queen held annually at their celebration in Charleston.
Martha was a member of the Simpson Methodist Church where she served as an organist in her younger years. After moving to Shinnston, she attended the First United Methodist Church there.
Friends will be received at the Harmer Funeral Home, Shinnston on Wednesday from 2-8 PM. A funeral service will be conducted at the funeral home at 10:30 AM Thursday, August 4, 2016 with Pastor Cindy Boggs officiating. Interment will follow at the Simpson Cemetery.
