Obituary for Charles Paul Knight

Charles Paul Knight
Charles Paul Knight, 91, of Edgewood passed away on Friday, March 31, 2017 at his residence. He was born on May 6, 1925, near Buckhannon, WV, to the late Grover Earl Knight and Eva (Rossano, Pollace) Knight.
Charles is survived by his dear friend and companion, Virginia and her family and his two daughters, Donna and husband Joe and Debbie and husband Brad; five grandchildren, Christine Heaps and husband Roland, Vicki, David, Genevieve Frace and husband Kyle, and Cindy Araujo and husband Victor; three great-grandchildren, Sydney and Sophia Frace, and Oren Heaps; and several nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents, Charles was preceded in death by his wife, Genevieve V. (Ashcraft) Knight, on August 5, 1966; five sisters, Rose (Pollace) Mancuso, Jenny (Pollace) Martin, infant Paulina Pollace, Leila (Knight, Ethridge) Griffin, and Francis (Knight) Spence; five brothers, Russell Pollace, Joe Pollace, Pat Pollace, Bill Knight and Ralph Knight. Charles was the youngest and last member of his immediate family. After graduating from Victory High School in 1943, Charles enlisted in the United States Navy and served in World War II from then until its end 1945. He was on a variety of ships including submarines and oil and gas supply tankers sailing in waters from Alaska to Australia. His final naval mission was on a mine sweeper helping to prepare for the entry of the United States into Japan for the signing of the treaty to end the war.
After an Honorable Discharge, he returned to Clarksburg, married his high school sweetheart, Genevieve, and was employed as a glassworker at the Hazel Atlas Co. (Continental Can Co., Ankor Hocking) for 45 years until his retirement. He loved his dogs, enjoyed hunting and fishing. He was a skilled carpenter, building and working on home construction projects and making furniture. Upon his request Charles was cremated and a private family graveside service was held. Cremation and Burial services were handled by Harmer Funeral Home in Shinnston.
Charles loved his country and was proud of his military service. Those wishing to give memorials may consider supporting the American Veterans Groups.
