She was born on October 3, 1934, in Clarksburg, a daughter of the late Rev. C.D. Tharp and
Lydia Hall Tharp.
She is survived by her husband, Louis Veltri; brother, J. Scott Tharp and wife Joan of
Barrackville; three children: Mark Shaver and wife Debbie of Barrackville, Dixon Shaver of
Fairmont, and Marsha Folio and her husband Tony of Bridgeport; five grandchildren: John Mark
Shaver, Angel Shaver, Amanda Shaver (Josh) Bennett, Kelly Folio (Grant) Johnson, and Kevin
Folio (Joe Hull); four great-grandchildren, Brody and Briar Cunningham and Adalyn and Emilia
Johnson; three step children: Vanessa Belcastro, Valerie Cross, and Frank Veltri; and her two
loving caregivers, Lori Feathers and Shelley Akers.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her brothers and sisters: Frances
Everson, Jim Tharp, Glen Tharp, Thelma Wolfe, Blanche Carpenter, and Delma Brazeale.
Elaine was a graduate of Barrackville High School in 1952 and graduated from Fairmont State
College with a BA in Elementary Education.
Elaine was an elementary school teacher for 30 plus years and taught in a one-room
schoolhouse at Mohan’s Run and as classroom teacher at Webster Springs, Hepzibah, Shinnston
Grade School, and Big Elm Elementary.
Elaine loved spending time with her family, gardening, watching Mountaineer football and
basketball games, baking, and tending to her beautiful flowers.
Family and friends will be received at Harmer Funeral Home, 300 Pike Street, Shinnston WV on Sunday, March 1, 2020 from 2:00 PM to 8:00 PM. Funeral services will be conducted at 12:00 PM on Monday, March 2,2020 with Pastor Jeffrey Deitzel officiating. Interment will be at the Barrackville Cemetery.
